May 3rd, 2006 - Singapore Sling?

Spent the next day in Singapore wandering the whole city starting in Little India and then China town and some authentic Singaporian stuff in between. The beauty of Singapore lies in is cleanliness! Everything is spotless and there's no graffiti anywhere! Those laws of cutting off people's hands seem to have worked! There's a river that runs through it (come to think of it there's a river that runs through every South East Asian city I've been through so far?) that was slightly foul smelling and tons of markets and open air sales stalls. We stopped at Lau Pau Sat a Singapore courtyard and had a field day trying to decide what kind of food to choose from - the duck was looking pretty tempting, but I settled on beef. Some of the Chinese and Indian temples really are stunning. We stopped into the Asian Civilisation Museum and tried to educate oursleves of where we are and where we are going. Some pretty interesting religious info and cultural relics. We stopped back at the hostel and finished our last bottle of wine on some bean bags at the entrance of our hostel while we were planning our departure and luggage storage. Then, it was off to a local restaurant which happened to be Indian (In Little India) except neither Laure or I recognized anything on the menu (except Naan) because it is an authentic vegetarian restaurant. We both settled on the meal of the day and kept our fingers crossed. It was outstanding and we read a bulletin about why we were meant to be vegitarian as we ate. Back across town we walked the Quay and sat for a drink of local Tiger beer. We'll be having it throughout our travels as wine is not common and Tiger is the most popular everywhere - its the Australian VB. The next morning we got off to an early start and headed for Melacca.
