September 3rd, 2005 – The Blue Mountains

Katoomba Falls Cable Car to Scenic Point

Saturday morning we finally headed out of the busy city life and into the busy wild life. It seems everywhere we go, even though it is the off-season, there are tourists. In the city it’s not as noticeable as in the country. After a 2 hour public transit train ride we arrived and were not disappointed. Some breathtaking scenery awaited from the tourist driven town of Katoomba. The whole Blue Mountain park starts after a cliff that spreads for miles providing some terrific landscapes and houses numerous small towns at the top. We started as far over on one side of the city, scaled down well trodden ladders and trails near Katoomba Falls, wandered half way down the length of the cliff before heading back up the Giant staircase – 900 steps of which most people go down, and then traversed the remainder of the town from an upper cliff trail. The weather was gloomy and surprisingly cold relative to the East coast, but at least it didn’t rain. We headed back into Sydney, grabbed a cheap Chinese meal and ate it at home in front of a movie with our new Scottish flat mates.
